Afreximbank Launches Specialized Training Program to Boost AfCFTA Opportunities for African Businesses

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has unveiled a tailor-made training program aimed at empowering African businesses to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The program, scheduled to run from June 30 to July 2, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, is designed to equip enterprises with a comprehensive understanding of the commercial implications and transformative potential of the AfCFTA.

Delivered in collaboration with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and the AfCFTA Secretariat, the training will offer practical insights into the evolving regulatory landscape of the AfCFTA. Participants will gain valuable knowledge on key treaty instruments, compliance with new trade rules, regional integration mechanisms, and strategies to navigate tariff and non-tariff barriers across the continent.

The program targets a diverse audience, including African corporates engaged in import and export activities, Trade Support Institutions, Investment Promotion Agencies, Financial Institutions, and other stakeholders in the foreign trade community. It will also feature presentations on Afreximbank products and initiatives supporting AfCFTA implementation, such as the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) and Africa Trade Gateway (ATG).

Empowering African Businesses for Success

Dr. Yemi Kale, Group Chief Economist & Managing Director of Research at Afreximbank, emphasized the importance of bridging knowledge gaps to unlock the full potential of the AfCFTA. He highlighted the need for businesses to understand the technical aspects of the agreement to effectively leverage its benefits and enhance competitiveness.

According to Tsotetsi Makong, Director Coordination and Programmes at the AfCFTA Secretariat, the training program will help businesses overcome challenges related to market understanding, compliance requirements, and product transportation, enabling them to transition from local production to export-focused models.

The upcoming training program, to be hosted at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Abuja, signifies a milestone in advancing trade facilitation and business collaboration across the continent. By empowering businesses with knowledge and skills, Afreximbank continues to drive economic transformation and maximize Africa’s trade potential.
