Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has found herself in hot water as reports indicate that she has been referred to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) disciplinary committee following her controversial comments on the party’s 2024 election defeat. This decision came shortly after her appearance on Joy News on Thursday, 20th March.

In a statement issued to the former lawmaker, it was made clear that as a former Member of Parliament, Former Deputy Majority Leader, and Former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to uphold the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that define the party. The statement emphasized the importance of promoting and defending the good name of the party, as outlined in Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution.

The directive from the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, warning members against discussing internal party matters that could lead to disaffection, was also highlighted. Frimpong acknowledged the frustration within the party following the defeat in the 2024 elections but urged members to exercise restraint as efforts were being made to restore unity.

Adwoa Safo, in response to the directive, dismissed it, accusing Justin Kodua of being the first to air the party’s internal grievances in the media. She expressed her right to speak out after facing months of unfair criticism from party supporters. She further criticized the NPP’s election review committee, labeling it as “bogus” and questioning the impartiality of its chairman, former Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.

The growing tensions within the NPP were highlighted as high-profile members continue to challenge the party’s leadership and post-election strategy. The situation underscores the deepening divisions within the party, as members express dissent and dissatisfaction.

The developments surrounding Adwoa Safo serve as a stark reminder of the importance of unity, discipline, and adherence to party principles within political organizations. It remains to be seen how the NPP will address these internal challenges and work towards rebuilding cohesion and solidarity within its ranks.
