Concerns Raised Over Promotions at EOCO
Security analyst Adam Bona has recently expressed his concerns regarding what he perceives as abrupt promotions at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) by Executive Director Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah following the defeat of the New Patriotic Party in the polls.
Bona highlighted that there have been recent appointments at EOCO, including a new Director of Investigations tasked with overseeing the agency’s investigative activities. He questioned the timing of these promotions and the potential implications for accountability within the organization.
During an interview on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Bona stated, “How can you be exiting as EOCO Boss, Maame Tiwaa, and you’re appointing a Director of Investigations so that if the new government has to investigate anything under your tenure, you would have your own person investigating you? You can’t approbate and reprobate. These things must be looked into and stopped by the Mahama administration. They undermine good governance.”
Call for Accountability
Bona also called on President Mahama to take decisive action against ASP Jalil, who was involved in assaulting a police officer at Jubilee House in 2017 when the New Patriotic Party came into power.
He emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “I expect the Mahama government to deal with hoodlums who took over and assaulted other people at Jubilee House. Someone like ASP Jalil accosted a police officer called DSP Nanka Bruce at Jubilee House, beat him up like an animal, went to his home also, and beat him up. This happened under the purported human rights activist president, and no one punished this ASP. He is still in uniform.”
Bona’s remarks have ignited discussions on governance, accountability, and the necessity for reforms within essential state institutions. It is crucial for transparency and integrity to be upheld in all government agencies to ensure effective governance and combat corruption.
