French Actor Gerard Depardieu Under Investigation for Tax Fraud
Renowned French actor Gerard Depardieu is currently under investigation in France for serious tax fraud, according to a source from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Depardieu, aged 76, who has previously faced allegations of sexual assault and rape, is suspected of falsely claiming his tax domicile in Belgium, as per the source.
The investigation, initially launched by financial crime prosecutors last month, is now being conducted by the police, involving raids in both France and Belgium, along with police interrogations.
Depardieu has become a prominent figure in the French cinema industry’s version of the #MeToo movement, being the most visible celebrity to face such allegations.

Due to health reasons, Depardieu’s sexual assault trial in Paris was postponed until March, as his lawyer cited his inability to attend court. The actor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Depardieu gained fame in France during the 1980s with notable roles in films like “The Last Metro,” “Police,” and “Cyrano de Bergerac” before achieving international recognition with films like Peter Weir’s “Green Card.”
