Renowned media personality and tourism advocate Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has recently been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the acting Deputy Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

In his new position, Santana will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Maame Efua Houadjeto, to execute the government’s strategic plans for the tourism sector. This move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing Ghana’s tourism industry and promoting the country as a preferred tourist destination.

Abeiku Santana, also known as “Mr. Tourism,” has amassed over 23 years of experience in various fields such as radio and television broadcasting, events management, public relations, advertising, marketing communications, tourism management, and hospitality. His educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Tourism Management from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, a Master’s Degree in Marketing Strategy from the University of Ghana Business School, and several other certifications in related fields.

Additionally, Santana occasionally serves as a visiting lecturer at prestigious institutions like the African University College of Communications, Pentecost University College, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and the University of Ghana. His wealth of knowledge and expertise make him a valuable asset to the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), established in 2011 under the Tourism Act 817, plays a vital role in regulating the tourism industry in the country. It operates as the Destination Management Organisation (DMO), responsible for marketing and promoting Ghana’s tourism offerings both locally and internationally. With Santana’s appointment as the acting Deputy Executive Director, the GTA is expected to witness positive growth and development in the coming years.
