A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, along the Anyinasuso-Sakam road in Offinso South, Ashanti Region, where a driver’s mate was fatally shot during a highway robbery. Reports indicate that two men pretending to be passengers tried to board a commercial minibus, but a third armed accomplice emerged from the bushes and opened fire, leading to the death of the conductor.

After the assailants took a sack from the driver, which he had received in Wenchi, they fired warning shots and fled the scene. Mr. Ibrahim Yogo, Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, confirmed the incident and mentioned that this was the first time such an incident had occurred in the area. The police were alerted, but the robbers had already escaped by the time they arrived.

This incident has raised concerns about security among commuters, prompting calls for increased police patrols on regional highways. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects to bring them to justice. In a separate event in Nyinahini, Ashanti Region, a fatal clash between military personnel and local youth resulted in one death and five injuries.

The confrontation reportedly started when soldiers confronted the group for wearing unauthorized camouflage clothing. Eyewitness Reverend Francis Nyamekye stated that the situation escalated when the military officers opened fire on the crowd, resulting in one death and five injuries. The community remains tense following the violent altercation, and the Police have initiated investigations to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

As these incidents highlight the need for increased security measures and vigilance, it is crucial for authorities to prioritize the safety of citizens and take necessary steps to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring.
