Sekhukhune United secured their spot in the next round of the Nedbank Cup with a convincing 2-0 win over Cape Town City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday. The match started off cautiously with both teams passing the ball around but failing to create any clear-cut chances in the first half.

It was Thabo Nodada from Cape Town City who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute, but his effort went narrowly wide of the target. The second half saw Sekhukhune United take control of the game, and they were rewarded with a goal just before the hour mark. Katlego Otladisa found space outside the box and unleashed a curling shot that beat goalkeeper Darren Keet to put the home side in front.

The Citizens were unable to respond and Sekhukhune extended their lead with 20 minutes remaining. Relebogile Mokhuoane rose highest to head home a corner kick from Sipho Mbule, making it 2-0 in favor of the hosts. Despite City’s efforts to get back into the game, Sekhukhune held firm and saw out the match to progress to the last 16 of the competition.

The victory was well-deserved for Sekhukhune United, who put in a solid performance on the day. The goals from Otladisa and Mokhuoane were enough to secure their passage to the next round, where they will look to continue their impressive run in the Nedbank Cup. Overall, it was a memorable night for the home team and their fans at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
