Asante Kotoko emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League clash on Sunday. The match saw Captain Justice Blay stepping up to convert a crucial penalty that secured the three points for the Porcupine Warriors.

The game started with Kotoko dominating possession in the first half, controlling 57% of the ball. Despite their dominance, they struggled to break down a resilient Karela United defense, managing only two shots on target out of six attempts in the first 45 minutes.

It wasn’t until the 69th minute when Baba Yahaya was brought down in the box, leading to Justice Blay’s composed spot-kick that found the back of the net. This goal proved to be the decider as Karela United failed to mount a comeback, eventually succumbing to defeat.

Karela United, on the other hand, struggled to create scoring opportunities throughout the game, managing just one shot on target. The loss leaves them rooted to the bottom of the league table with only 14 points from 18 matches.

Asante Kotoko’s dominance in the match reflected their current form, extending their unbeaten streak to seven games in the league. This vital win propelled them to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings with 34 points, edging past Bibiani Gold Stars by a single point.

The Porcupine Warriors are now five points clear of arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, who currently sit in 5th place. With their eyes set on clinching the league title this season, Kotoko is building momentum and showcasing stellar performances as the competition intensifies.

The team’s dream of lifting the league trophy is within reach, with their recent displays indicating a strong determination to succeed. As the season progresses, Asante Kotoko will look to maintain their impressive form and secure more crucial wins on their quest for glory in the Ghana Premier League.
