Ghanaian wonderkid Jerry Afriyie has officially sealed a move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadsiah FC on a permanent basis. The 18-year-old prodigy has also been loaned out to Spanish third-tier club CD Lugo for the remainder of the season as part of the agreement.

Afriyie, who is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s most promising young talents, has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Saudi club. His rise from playing for lower division side Thoughts FC to emerging as a standout performer for Ghana has been nothing short of remarkable.

The young forward caught the attention of many with his outstanding displays on the international stage, earning himself a debut call-up to the Black Stars during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger. He was also instrumental in Ghana’s triumph at the 2024 African Games, where he finished as the top scorer of the tournament.

Afriyie’s exceptional performances in 2024 saw him clinch the Golden Boot at the WAFU B Championship and secure a gold medal with the U-20 team at the African Games in March. Additionally, he was part of the Black Galaxies squad that unfortunately fell to Nigeria in the CHAN qualifiers.

The young talent further cemented his reputation by leading Ghana’s U-20 side to qualify for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was honored as both Goal King and Best Player at the WAFU Zone B Championship in Togo.

Looking ahead, Afriyie will be aiming to continue his development during his loan spell at CD Lugo as he sets his sights on securing a more lucrative deal in the future. He will also be eager to catch the eye of Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo in hopes of earning a call-up for the upcoming World Cup, following his impressive performances in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
