The Sunrisers Eastern Cape finally got their first win of the season in the SA20 league, although they still find themselves at the bottom of the standings. The reigning champions secured a convincing 58-run victory over the Super Giants in their latest match at Kingsmead stadium.

Captain Aiden Markram acknowledged the quality of the opposition and expressed his satisfaction with the win. The Super Giants were set a target of 166 runs, but they faltered and were bowled out for 107 runs in the 19th over. Seam bowlers Richard Gleeson and Ottneil Baartman, along with spinner Liam Dawson, were instrumental in restricting the Super Giants’ batting lineup.

In their innings, the Sunrisers were kept under pressure by Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad, who took four wickets and also contributed with a catch. Despite Ahmad’s efforts, the Sunrisers managed to post a total of 165/5, with Tom Abell top-scoring with 57 runs. Zak Crawley and Marco Jansen also made valuable contributions with the bat.

While the Sunrisers earned their first points of the season, they still find themselves at the bottom of the standings. The Super Giants are just above them, with one win and a rain-affected match giving them a slight edge. The two teams will face off again in their next match in Gqeberha.

Overall, the Sunrisers will be hoping to build on their recent victory and climb up the standings as the season progresses. Despite their slow start, they have shown that they have the quality to compete with the best teams in the league.
