Africa is on the brink of accelerated growth, with major energy projects and untapped resources creating an attractive environment for project developers and financiers. The continent’s energy demand is projected to more than double by 2050, with fossil fuels expected to make up to 60% of the energy mix by 2040. This presents a strategic opportunity for companies to invest, energy portfolios to expand, and countries to benefit from their oil, gas, and energy resources.

The African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies conference is returning for its next edition from 29 September to 3 October at the Cape Town International Convention Center. This event serves as the leading platform for deal-making, energy partnerships, and investments, offering a platform for capital and technology to be directed towards African energy projects.

In 2025, the AEW conference will have a greater focus on projects and emerging opportunities in Africa’s energy sector. Major developments such as the Congo LNG project, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim development in Senegal/Mauritania, the Cabinda Refinery in Angola, and exploratory drilling continent-wide require capital, highlighting emerging opportunities for global financiers. Additionally, Africa’s 2024/2025 licensing rounds signal a renewed drive to position the continent as a leading frontier, creating in-roads for new players in the industry.

AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 aims to unite stakeholders to make energy poverty history by 2030. The event brings together energy, finance, and policy stakeholders from the global and African markets to address pressing challenges and showcase investment opportunities available across the continent. Discussions will focus on frontier exploration, refining and processing, power development, green hydrogen, regulation, and skills development.

While the world prioritizes renewable energy development, African countries seek to drive a just energy transition that incorporates a variety of energy solutions. AEW: Invest in African Energies promotes collaboration and partnerships to forge a new pathway for the continent. Discussions at the event will focus on strategies for accelerating industrialization, reducing emissions with technologies like gas-to-power and LNG, and the impact of integrated energy systems on African economies.

To attract fresh investment in African energy projects, countries have enacted policy reforms to strengthen transparency and investor certainty. Nigeria, South Africa, the Republic of Congo, and Algeria have implemented policy reforms to enhance the business environment and make 2025 a strategic year to invest in African energy.
