The 2024 parliamentary election in Ghana saw the emergence of a new political figure, Kwame A Plus, as the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central. A Plus attributed his victory to the guidance and wisdom of renowned Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale. The dancehall artiste’s advice on leadership and connecting with the people played a pivotal role in shaping A Plus’s campaign strategy, leading to his successful election.

In a candid revelation, A Plus shared how he sought Shatta Wale’s insights on building a massive following and connecting with the electorate. Shatta Wale emphasized the importance of focusing on people’s needs, solving their problems, and embodying a leadership style that gives back to the community. Drawing parallels with historical figures like Jesus Christ, Shatta Wale’s unconventional yet profound advice resonated with A Plus, who acknowledged the artist’s intelligence and wisdom.

On December 7, 2024, A Plus clinched a significant victory by defeating Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). With 14,277 votes, A Plus surpassed his opponents and secured his position as the MP for Gomoa Central. His win marked a debut in Parliament as an independent candidate, although he later aligned himself with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to shared values and vision.

Reflecting on his early days in office, A Plus shared a surprising shift in perspective regarding the use of sirens by MPs to navigate traffic. Initially critical of the practice, he experienced a change of heart after understanding the dual responsibilities of a legislator and a representative of the people. This newfound insight highlighted the complexities of governance and the challenges faced by public officials in meeting the demands of their roles.

A Plus’s victory has been hailed as a testament to his grassroots engagement and his ability to resonate with the electorate. His collaboration with Shatta Wale underscores the potential for unconventional advice to inspire impactful change in leadership. As A Plus continues his political journey, his partnership with the music icon serves as a reminder of the diverse sources of wisdom and inspiration that can shape a leader’s trajectory towards success.
