Nasarawa United, a football club based in Lafia, was found guilty of violating the NPFL Framework and Rules during their Matchday 18 clash with Rivers United on December 22, 2024.

The allegations against Nasarawa stemmed from their breach of the NPFL 2025 regulations, specifically by encroaching onto the playing field during the game. This unauthorized intrusion not only disrupted the match but also led to an unfortunate incident where the away team was attacked.

Furthermore, Nasarawa failed to ensure that their players and supporters conducted themselves appropriately, ultimately resulting in the violent assault on the visiting team. The situation escalated when the centre referee, Musibaudeen Ibrahim, was also targeted by the club’s supporters.

In response to these infractions, the NPFL imposed a hefty fine of N3 million on Nasarawa. This penalty was broken down into N1 million for each offense committed: encroachment on the pitch, failure to control player and fan behavior, and inadequate security measures. Additionally, the club was docked three points and three goals for the attack on the referee.

Nasarawa was given a deadline of seven working days to identify and take legal action against those responsible for assaulting the away team. They are required to provide regular updates to the NPFL on the progress of their investigation.

As a precautionary measure, Lafia City Stadium will be closed to spectators indefinitely until Nasarawa enhances security measures and addresses issues within the state box. The club must collaborate with the NPFL’s security department and demonstrate compliance with the new regulations.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding sportsmanship and ensuring the safety of all individuals involved in football matches. Nasarawa United’s actions have not only tarnished their own reputation but have also raised concerns about the need for stricter enforcement of regulations in the NPFL.
