Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio Receives Report from Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, Assures Healthy Partnership

His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio has been presented with a comprehensive three-year report from the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC). The report highlights the Commission’s efforts in building partnerships with local and international stakeholders to enhance its independence and effectiveness.

Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, emphasized the importance of the presentation, noting that the report fulfills a constitutional mandate under the ICPNC Act. He commended the Commission for its dedication to promoting peace and national unity within its institutional framework.

Reverend Shodanke Johnson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ICPNC, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation under President Bio’s leadership. He outlined key contributions made during his tenure, including the advancement of the Commission’s strategic plan, establishment of partnerships with stakeholders, and implementation of initiatives to mitigate conflict and promote peace at local and national levels.

Madam Hawa Sally Samai, Executive Secretary of the ICPNC, thanked President Bio and other stakeholders for their trust and support. She highlighted the importance of presenting the report to Parliament in accordance with Section 23 of the ICPNC Act.

President Bio commended the Commission for its impactful work over the past three years, describing the establishment of the ICPNC as a deliberate and visionary step. He recognized the Commission’s achievements in fostering peace and cohesion, emphasizing the invaluable nature of conflict prevention efforts.

“The preventive nature of your work is invaluable. By addressing potential sources of conflict early and fostering dialogue, your efforts have significantly reduced tensions and created an environment conducive to development,” President Bio remarked.

President Bio assured the Commission of his government’s unwavering support, highlighting the importance of peace as a prerequisite for meaningful development. He encouraged the Commission to continue its noble work for the sake of a peaceful Sierra Leone.

The President expressed optimism about reviewing the report and looks forward to constructive input from Parliament to strengthen its recommendations.
