The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is optimistic about the future of football in Ghana, with Communications Director Henry Asante Twum expressing confidence that 2025 will be a much better year for the sport in the country.
Reflecting on a challenging 2024, Asante Twum acknowledged that the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars, failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, while the Black Galaxies also fell short in their bid to qualify for the CHAN tournament. However, he pointed out the success of the men’s and women’s Under-20 teams, the Black Satellites and Black Princesses, who achieved notable victories in the previous year.
The Black Galaxies and Black Princesses both clinched gold at the 2023 African Games held in Accra in March 2024, highlighting the potential and talent within Ghanaian football. Asante Twum believes that this success bodes well for the future of the sport in the country.
Looking ahead, the focus now shifts to the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches. Asante Twum expressed hope that the team can secure a spot in the prestigious tournament, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico next year.
Despite the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, Ghana is determined to bounce back and make a strong statement in the World Cup qualifiers. Head coach Otto Addo and his team will be seeking redemption as they face Chad and Madagascar in crucial matches scheduled for March.
As Ghana aims to regain its competitive edge on the international stage, the GFA remains committed to supporting and developing football talent in the country. With a renewed sense of optimism and determination, Ghanaian football fans can look forward to an exciting and promising year ahead.
