Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan recently took to Instagram to share his thoughts on his relationship with fellow teammate Andre Ayew. Gyan, who was named the BBC African Player of the Year in 2010, opened up about feeling that Ayew had been influenced by propaganda that served the interests of others rather than the collective good.

During a live session with fans, Gyan reflected on his past experiences with the Black Stars and discussed his relationship with Ayew. While acknowledging that Ayew is a good person, Gyan hinted that he believed Ayew had been brainwashed to prioritize the interests of certain individuals over the team as a whole.

“Andre is a good person. He has that genuine love for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits people. That is what has brought the so-called rivalry. Me, I am not a rival to anyone,” Gyan shared with his followers.

The reasons behind Gyan’s emotional outburst are not entirely clear, but many speculate that he was expressing long-held feelings that he had kept to himself for years. Gyan officially retired from professional football in June 2023 after an illustrious 18-year career.

Throughout his time with the Black Stars, Gyan achieved numerous milestones. He is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances and holds the record for the most goals scored by an African player in the FIFA World Cup, with six goals to his name. Despite his impressive accomplishments on the field, Gyan has always shown dedication and passion for the game.

Many Ghanaians are hopeful that Gyan will return to the football world, not as a player, but as a coach to lead the Black Stars to success. His experience, leadership, and deep understanding of the game make him a strong candidate for a coaching role, and fans are eager to see how he can inspire the next generation of Ghanaian footballers.
