The case against American rapper Jay-Z for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 has taken a new turn as a judge rejected his attempt to have the case dismissed. The judge, Analisa Torres, also allowed the accuser, known as “Jane Doe,” to continue in anonymity despite pressure from Jay-Z’s legal team to reveal her identity.

Shawn Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z, has vehemently denied the allegations brought against him. The judge criticized Jay-Z’s attorney for submitting confrontational papers with inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks, stating that such tactics were ineffective and a waste of judicial resources.

The amended lawsuit filed by Jane Doe claims that she was also raped by Sean “Diddy” Combs and an unnamed celebrity after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z was named in the updated lawsuit, making him the first famous person to be accused of sexual assault alongside Combs. Doe alleged that both men sexually abused her after drugging her at a party.

Despite standing by her accusations, Jay-Z has pointed out contradictions in Doe’s account, which she acknowledged in a recent interview. His attorney used these contradictions to push for an expedited dismissal, arguing that the case was baseless and frivolous.

Jane Doe is represented by Tony Buzbee, a Houston-based lawyer who is also defending at least 120 accusers of Sean Combs. Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, accused Buzbee of extortion, a claim that Buzbee denies.

The judge granted Doe’s motion to proceed anonymously, citing the weight of the factors in her favor. However, she stated that this decision may change as the case progresses, especially during the discovery phase.

Doe’s claims of being drugged and raped at the age of thirteen by Combs and Jay-Z, along with allegations of threats from Combs towards other clients who have filed similar lawsuits, were key factors in granting her anonymity.

Combs’s legal team released a statement denying the allegations against him, calling the lawsuits against him “shameless publicity stunts.” Jay-Z’s lawyer remains confident that the case will be dismissed, referring to it as a “fantasy.”

The case continues to unfold, with both parties maintaining their positions as the legal battle progresses. The judge’s ruling has set the tone for the upcoming proceedings, which will determine the outcome of this high-profile case.
