Comedian Hannah Berner Faces Backlash for Joke About Blake Lively
In the world of comedy, timing is crucial. Unfortunately for comedian Hannah Berner, her timing couldn’t have been worse when she made a joke about Blake Lively’s alleged bad behavior on Netflix’s “Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year” comedy special.
The special, which was released on Friday, featured well-known comics poking fun at the biggest stories of the year. Berner, a former reality TV star turned stand-up comedian, took aim at Lively over rumors about her difficult personality.
During her set, Berner mentioned that the word “c***” had been trending that year and insinuated that Lively wasn’t as bad as people made her out to be. While the audience laughed at the time, the joke now seems tone-deaf in light of recent events.
Just a few days after the special was filmed, Lively filed a lawsuit against her co-star Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment and alleged that he took part in a coordinated effort to destroy her reputation on the set of “It Ends With Us.” The lawsuit included text messages between public relations representatives working for Baldoni, discussing ways to take down Lively.
Despite Baldoni denying any wrongdoing, his agency WME dropped him shortly after Lively’s lawsuit was filed, indicating a shift in public support towards the actress.
It’s worth noting that Berner’s joke was not the only controversial moment of the night. Comedian Tim Dillon also made headlines by portraying the ghost of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, showing that no topic was off-limits during the special.
We have reached out to Blake Lively for comment on Hannah Berner’s joke, but have not received a response yet.
