Nora Häuptle Takes the Helm as Head Coach of Zambia’s Women’s National Football Team

Nora Häuptle has officially been named as the new head coach of the Copper Queens, Zambia’s women’s national football team. Her appointment comes in the wake of the departure of Bruce Mwape, who faced allegations of sexual misconduct, leading to his resignation.

Häuptle, a renowned Swiss coach recognized for her tactical expertise and strong leadership skills, most recently led the Ghanaian women’s national team. During her time with the Black Queens, Häuptle oversaw significant improvements in the team’s performance. Despite her success, she chose not to renew her contract with the Ghana Football Association, citing a desire to seek a new challenge and contribute to the advancement of women’s football in southern Africa.

Insiders close to Häuptle disclosed that her decision to take on the role with the Copper Queens was motivated by a desire to make a meaningful impact and help elevate the team to new heights.

The Copper Queens have been making waves in African women’s football, garnering attention for their impressive showings at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. However, Mwape’s tenure was marred by controversy, prompting calls for change from players, stakeholders, and the public.

Häuptle’s appointment has been met with optimism and high expectations, as many believe her experience and leadership qualities will bring stability and renewed morale to the team.

In her new position, Häuptle’s primary focus will be on preparing the team for upcoming qualifiers and ensuring that Zambia remains a competitive force in women’s football on the continent.
