The recent incident at the Edge of Lowry apartments in Aurora has left the community in shock. What started as a gang-related home invasion and kidnapping has now led to the arrest of 16 undocumented Venezuelan immigrants suspected of being members or associates of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua prison gang.

According to Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan, three of the 19 people initially detained have been released after investigators determined they were not involved in the incident. The remaining 16 suspects are currently in federal custody on immigration violations. The victims, a man and a woman, were forcibly removed from their apartment, bound, pistol-whipped, threatened, and tortured for hours. The man was also stabbed but is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending against all 16 suspects. While they are in ICE custody awaiting removal proceedings or hearings before an immigration judge, prosecutors are not prevented from pursuing state charges against them. The Aurora Police Department is working tirelessly to bring justice to the victims and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers that gang-related activities pose to our communities. It is crucial for law enforcement agencies to work together to combat gang violence and protect innocent civilians from becoming victims. As the investigation continues, the residents of Aurora are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
