Millions of people on the US East Coast are currently facing an outage in Verizon Fios internet services. The reports of the outage started surfacing early Tuesday morning, as per data from Down Detector. The heat map of the United States indicates that users are predominantly facing issues in cities like Boston, New York, and Washington. The affected area spans nearly 300 miles or 500 kilometers, stretching from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania to Richmond in Virginia.
Verizon is known for having one of the largest wireless networks in the United States, covering 70% of the country with its LTE network. Several users took to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration about the outage.
One user commented, “Verizon has all of us night owls and insomniacs in a tizzy because there’s an apparent outage, nationwide. It’s definitely here in DC, MD, and I believe Virginia.” Another user said, “This Verizon internet outage seems unusual. Annoying also.” A third user added, “Huge internet outage for Verizon happening overnight. It’s already been out over two hours.”
In response to the complaints, Verizon stated, “There is either an outage or network maintenance impacting your area. We don’t have full details just yet. Our apologies for any inconvenience this is causing. We’re trying to get all the information from our network team so we can provide you all an update.”
The reports of the outages peaked between midnight and 2 am EST, with thousands of complaints flooding in during this time, according to Down Detector. Ninety percent of these complaints were related to internet services, nine percent described a “total blackout,” and one percent affected TV streaming.
