2025 Rising Queens Celebrates Ghana’s Female Chess Stars
Accra, Sept. 02, GNA – The 2025 Rising Queens event held on Saturday was a celebration of Ghana’s brightest female chess stars for their exceptional contributions to advancing the sport. Organized by Mindsport Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Chess Association, the FIDE Women’s Commission, and the Africa Chess Confederation, the event honored individuals who have played a significant role in the growth of chess in the country.
The event featured awards presentations, personal stories of chess journeys, rapid chess tournaments, and networking opportunities. One of the highlights was the presentation of appreciation awards to individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the development of women’s chess in Ghana.
During the event, a rapid chess tournament took place, with Jeshurun Tandon and Christiana Naa Merley Ashley emerging as champions.
Among the awardees were Ashley Christiana Naa Merley, Dr. Ayiku Angela Naa Amerley, Tobi Felix Abena, Maud Benson Esi, Dzidzor Dotse, Gertrude Banini, Ridham, Betty Dzima, Keziah George, and Hephzibah T. Tandoh. Other awardees included Tiwaa Abena Appau, Ayesha Osman, Aquah Araba Mensima, Majid-Michel Lady Rowena, Pearl Addo, Cassandra Biney, Sumya Dotse, Richael Ashley, and Audrey Ayiku.
The event was attended by Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Madam Veronica Commey, Deputy Director General of the NSA, representatives from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and other dignitaries.
