Chelsea Secure 2-0 Victory Over Fulham in Premier League Clash
Chelsea continued their impressive start to the Premier League season with a solid 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The victory marked their second consecutive league win, showcasing their early dominance in the competition.
The breakthrough came just before half-time when Joao Pedro rose highest to head in Enzo Fernandez’s corner, putting Chelsea in the lead. Fernandez later extended the advantage early in the second half from the penalty spot after Ryan Sessegnon was penalized for handball following Trevoh Chalobah’s shot.
With this win, Chelsea now sit on seven points from three matches, maintaining their unbeaten record so far. On the other hand, Fulham suffered their first defeat of the season after previously holding both Brighton and Manchester United to 1-1 draws.
Injury Woes for Chelsea
However, the victory was marred by injury concerns for Chelsea, as Liam Delap had to be substituted off in the 13th minute due to a suspected hamstring injury. This adds to their existing injury list, with Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill already sidelined with their respective issues.
VAR Controversy and Missed Opportunities
Fulham thought they had leveled the score when Joshua King found the net on a counter-attack, but VAR intervened and ruled out the goal after Rodrigo Muniz was deemed to have fouled Chalobah in the build-up. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez also made a crucial save to deny Muniz before Pedro’s opening goal.
Despite late pressure from Fulham, with Raul Jimenez and Joachim Andersen coming close to scoring, Chelsea’s defense held firm to secure the three points.
What’s Next
After the international break, Chelsea will face Brentford on September 13, while Fulham will take on Leeds United on the same day.
