Police Ladies Secure Vital Victory in WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers
Police Ladies’ hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers received a major boost after their impressive victory over Sam Nelly on Wednesday evening.
The Ghanaian champions emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, propelling them to the second spot in Group B.
Yussif Basigi’s squad relied on goals from Grace Animah, Sarah Nyarko, and Deborah Afriyie to clinch the crucial win against their Benin opponents.
Animah broke the deadlock in the 14th minute from the penalty spot, converting the opportunity after a handball infringement in the box by a Sam Nelly player.
Shortly after, Nyarko doubled Police Ladies’ lead by capitalizing on a well-delivered cross from Laura Juul Hansen to find the back of the net.
Despite creating more scoring chances before halftime, Police Ladies failed to extend their lead further.
Captain for the day, Deborah Afriyie, sealed the victory for Police Ladies in the second half, pouncing on a rebound from Ruth Appiah’s long-range strike.
Sam Nelly managed to pull one back in the closing minutes of the game, but Police Ladies maintained composure to secure a 3-1 win.
This triumph marks Police Ladies’ first victory in the competition, following their earlier defeat to Bayelsa Queens.
Next up, Police Ladies will face ASKO of Togo on August 30 in their quest to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
