Dear GhanaWeb,

I’m a 34-year-old man who is at a crossroads when it comes to the idea of marriage. Growing up, my father has consistently advised me against getting married, citing his own negative experiences with marriage. Despite my desire to build a family, his warnings have left me conflicted and unsure of what path to take.

My father believes that marriage does not lead to happiness and has instead encouraged me to have children with different women without committing to marriage. He often shares how his own marriage has brought him frustration and unhappiness, despite still being with my mother.

Despite their seemingly happy exterior, my father claims that their relationship is not as it seems and that he has sacrificed his own happiness for the sake of our family. He warns me that marriage will only lead to arguments, unfulfilled goals, and a loss of personal freedom.

While I was raised in a loving and supportive home, my father’s warnings have planted seeds of doubt in my mind. I value the idea of family and monogamy, but his words have made me question whether marriage is truly worth it.

Now, I find myself torn between following my father’s advice and trusting my own values. I am financially stable and ready to settle down with one woman, but my father’s warnings continue to linger in my mind.

Should I listen to my father and forgo marriage in favor of having children without commitment? Or should I trust my own instincts and seek out a meaningful partnership with a woman?

This internal struggle has prevented me from taking the next step towards marriage and starting a family.
