The World Public Assembly is gearing up to host the Second Congress of the World Organization of Writers (WOW) on 20–21 September 2025. This prestigious event will bring together literary voices from over 100 countries, all united under the theme “We are People of the Same Planet.”
Building on the success of its inaugural congress in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2024, WOW is set to expand its global reach with the upcoming gathering in Moscow. Seven parallel round tables will serve as the focal point of the congress, delving into various themes such as the role of writers’ communities in shaping humanistic agendas, the art of translation, the influence of media on literature, and the significance of education and universities in the literary world.
Additionally, panels will shine a spotlight on young authors, publishing platforms, and the intersections of drama and cinematography within the realm of literature. Margarita Al, President of WOW, emphasized the strategic format of the congress, aiming to translate dialogue into tangible action. She stated, “It is not just discussion – it is about starting a movement.”
The lineup of writers confirmed for the congress is truly diverse, representing nations like Ghana, Algeria, Brazil, India, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. A highlight of the event will be the gathering of all past winners of the WOW Award, symbolizing a passing of the baton from Nigeria to Russia.
Furthermore, the congress will culminate in the announcement of the next WOW Award winners and the selection of the host country for the 2026 edition. Organizers are keen on producing concrete outcomes from the event, aiming for new translations, collaborative projects, and support programs that strengthen international literary cooperation.
As the literary world converges in Moscow for the Second Congress of WOW, the focus is not just on ceremony but on sparking meaningful initiatives that will leave a lasting impact on the global literary landscape. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes and initiatives that emerge from this groundbreaking event.
