Angélique Kidjo, the acclaimed five-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer known as “Africa’s premier diva,” has made history as the first African artist to receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame. Renowned for her powerful vocals, genre-defying music, and captivating stage presence, the Beninese-French superstar will be honored in the “Recording” category, alongside global music legends like Miley Cyrus and The Clark Sisters.

The announcement of Kidjo’s induction into the Walk of Fame Class of 2026 comes as a momentous occasion for the music industry. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce revealed the selection of 35 trailblazers from various entertainment fields, including music, film, television, live performance, and sports entertainment. The esteemed panel of the Walk of Fame selection committee finalized the choices on June 20, with official approval from the board of directors on June 25.

Peter Roth, former CEO of Warner Bros. Television and chairman of the selection committee, expressed excitement about the new additions to the Walk of Fame. He stated, “These talented individuals have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to honor them with this well-deserved recognition.”

Kidjo’s recognition symbolizes a significant milestone not only for her but also for the entire African music diaspora. Throughout her illustrious four-decade career, she has continuously pushed cultural and musical boundaries. A staunch advocate for African art and identity, Kidjo has played a crucial role in introducing global audiences to the richness of African rhythms, languages, and traditions.

At 64 years old, Kidjo’s list of accolades continues to expand. In addition to her five GRAMMY Awards, she was honored with the prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2023 and is widely revered as one of Africa’s greatest living vocalists. Beyond her musical achievements, she is also an accomplished actress and a passionate advocate for humanitarian causes, particularly those focused on women’s empowerment and education.

Joining Kidjo in the star-studded 2026 Walk of Fame class are notable figures such as actors Timothée Chalamet and Demi Moore, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal, among others.

Stay tuned for the unveiling ceremony of Angélique Kidjo’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the date set to be announced in the coming months. This recognition cements Kidjo’s legacy as a trailblazer in the music industry and a beacon of inspiration for artists worldwide.
