City of Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero recently faced a motion of no confidence, which he survived with 144 votes in his favor, 75 against him, and 43 abstentions. However, ActionSA speaker Nobuhle Mthembu was not as fortunate and was removed from her post with 212 votes for her removal and 48 against.

Prior to the voting, sources revealed that Morero and ANC council chief whip Sithembiso Zungu were expected to survive the motions due to their numbers in the council. On the other hand, Mthembu was likely to be replaced by a speaker from a minority party.

The ANC regional task team (RTT) determined that ActionSA had positioned itself outside the government of local unity in the Johannesburg metro. This decision was made after discussions with ActionSA officials who indicated they would not support Morero.

The motion of no confidence against Mthembu was initiated by Al Jamah-ah, a member of the coalition government. The motions against Morero and Zungu were brought by the Democratic Alliance.

In response to these developments, ActionSA stated that they would not vote to defend Morero in the motion of no confidence. This decision was made based on their belief that Morero had failed in his leadership of the City of Johannesburg.

Despite the controversies and tensions within the coalition government, ActionSA emphasized their commitment to addressing issues on a case-by-case basis. They reiterated their stance on supporting the government of local unity to prevent the city from being adversely affected by coalition tensions.

As the political landscape in Johannesburg continues to evolve, the decisions made by key players like Morero, Mthembu, and ActionSA will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the governance and future direction of the city. It remains to be seen how these dynamics will shape the political landscape in the coming days and months.
