The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, recently met with a delegation from TikTok to discuss important issues concerning the platform. During the meeting held on June 26, 2025, Minister George urged TikTok to prioritize equitable compensation for local content creators and strengthen child safety measures on the platform.

Headed by Tokunbo Ibrahim, the Government Relations and Public Policy Lead for West Africa, the TikTok team engaged in comprehensive discussions covering platform safety protocols, digital innovation partnerships, and content moderation frameworks.

Minister George emphasized the need to protect minors from inappropriate online content, stating that online safety for children is non-negotiable. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that platforms like TikTok are safe spaces for entertainment, learning, and empowerment.

As part of their commitment to enhancing child safety, TikTok’s Ibrahim shared the company’s recent safety enhancements, including a specialized STEM content feed aimed at providing educational material in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for young users. She also reaffirmed TikTok’s dedication to user protection and its partnership with Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority.

Minister George commended TikTok’s STEM initiative and suggested integrating it with Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme to promote digital literacy nationwide. He also proposed organizing training workshops for bloggers and content creators to help them maximize the economic benefits of digital content production.

To address concerns regarding misinformation and hate speech, Minister George recommended the establishment of a Ghana-focused content moderation team within TikTok’s operations. This team would ensure culturally appropriate content oversight and protect Ghana’s digital landscape.
