Man on Honeymoon in Florida Struck by Lightning and Killed

A tragic incident unfolded in Florida as a 29-year-old man, identified as Jake Rosencranz, lost his life to a lightning strike while on his honeymoon. The heartbreaking event took place at New Smyrna Beach, where Rosencranz, from Colorado, was standing in ankle-deep water when the lightning struck him on Friday afternoon.

Despite the storm being several miles away, lifeguards had not yet cleared the beach when the fatal incident occurred. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and performed CPR on Rosencranz, but unfortunately, he was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead the following day at a hospital.

This tragic event marked Florida’s first lightning strike death of the season, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Authorities confirmed that Rosencranz was 29 years old and expressed their condolences to his family and loved ones.

Volusia County Sheriff, Mike Chitwood, took to Facebook to share his condolences, acknowledging the devastating loss of a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. He extended his sympathies to Rosencranz’s wife, expressing hope for comfort and healing during this difficult time.

As the community rallied around the grieving family, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Rosencranz’s wife, raising over $65,000 in donations. The outpouring of support and generosity showcased the unity and compassion within the community during such a tragic event.

On the same day as Rosencranz’s accident, two men playing golf at a nearby course also faced the dangers of lightning strikes but were fortunate to escape with minor injuries. The incident served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and deadly nature of lightning, urging caution and awareness during stormy weather.
