The TikTok Content Creator Allegedly Abducted and Robbed During a Bolt Ride in Durban
A TikTok content creator, Simthande Myeza, has reportedly been abducted and robbed during a Bolt ride in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The incident has sparked outrage and concern for rider safety.
According to a statement from Myeza’s family, the abduction took place last Tuesday in the Umbilo area of Durban. Myeza became suspicious when the driver deviated from the usual route and asked for a U-turn. This led to a confrontation where two other individuals approached the vehicle, with one brandishing a gun, blindfolding Myeza, tying his hands, and taking him to an undisclosed location.
Bolt South Africa’s Response
Bolt South Africa’s Senior General Manager, Lerato Motsoeneng, has assured the public that the company is taking the incident seriously and has reached out to Myeza. Motsoeneng emphasized that rider safety is a top priority for Bolt.
“We are aware of the incident involving Simthande Myeza and are deeply concerned. We are committed to working with the relevant authorities to address this matter and ensure the safety of our community,” Motsoeneng stated.
Bolt is currently verifying the trip information and will cooperate with all parties involved to thoroughly investigate the incident. The company is dedicated to ensuring that every ride on Bolt is a safe and trusted experience for users.
“The safety of our community is paramount, and we will continue to collaborate with law enforcement authorities to take necessary actions,” Motsoeneng added.
The incident has raised questions about the security measures in place for e-hailing services and the need for stricter safety protocols to protect riders. Bolt has pledged to enhance its safety measures and work towards preventing similar incidents in the future.
As the investigation unfolds, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity during e-hailing rides to ensure the safety of all passengers.
