Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe is currently in the hospital receiving treatment for gastroenteritis, causing him to miss the team’s opening match at the Club World Cup in America. The French striker was unable to play in Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal due to what was initially described as a “viral outbreak.” Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that Mbappe is battling a serious viral infection and it remains uncertain when he will be fit to return to the pitch.

Alonso expressed uncertainty about Mbappe’s availability for Sunday’s upcoming match against Pachuca, stating, “We still don’t know if he’ll be ready for the next match. He’s been dealing with a serious viral infection. We’ll monitor his progress closely in the coming days.” Despite earlier reports that Mbappe was feeling slightly better but not well enough to play, the club released a statement confirming that Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and is undergoing tests and treatment in the hospital.

Gastroenteritis typically resolves within a few days but can persist for a week or longer in severe cases. The condition is commonly caused by a bacterial infection or stomach bug, leading to symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Mbappe’s health will be closely monitored by the medical team as he aims to recover in time for future matches.

Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid from PSG for free last summer, emerged as the club’s key signing and top performer. In his debut season, he scored an impressive 43 goals in 56 games across all competitions. Despite a few minor injuries, including hamstring and muscle problems that sidelined him for a couple of matches, Mbappe showcased his talent and played a crucial role in Madrid’s success.

In Mbappe’s absence, 21-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia stepped up and scored a goal for Madrid in the match against Al-Hilal. As the team prepares for upcoming fixtures, they will need to adapt to Mbappe’s absence and rely on other players to deliver strong performances on the field. Fans will eagerly await updates on Mbappe’s health and hope for a speedy recovery for the star striker.
