Gennaro Gattuso Named Italy’s New Coach
Former Italian football star Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed as the new coach of Italy’s national team, taking over from Luciano Spalletti. The 47-year-old, who was a key member of the 2006 World Cup-winning squad and earned 73 caps for the Azzurri during his playing career, will now lead the team in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) made the announcement on Sunday, with Gattuso set to be officially presented to the media on Thursday.
Gabriele Gravina, president of the FIGC, expressed his confidence in Gattuso’s ability to lead the team, stating, “Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football. The blue shirt is like a second skin for him. His motivation, professionalism, and experience will be essential in achieving our goals. I thank him for his dedication and willingness to take on this challenge.”
Gattuso’s appointment comes with high expectations, as he is tasked with guiding Italy through the qualifying stages and ultimately securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup. With his wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, Gattuso is seen as the ideal candidate to lead the team to success on the international stage.
Italian football fans are eagerly anticipating Gattuso’s tenure as head coach, hopeful that he can bring back the glory days of Italian football and lead the Azzurri to victory in future tournaments.
