The African School of Governance (ASG) recently completed a presidential tour across major African cities, introducing itself as the continent’s newest and most ambitious institution aimed at training the next generation of African leaders. Led by ASG President, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, the tour garnered attention from a wide array of stakeholders including government officials, development partners, policymakers, academics, and aspiring changemakers looking to shape Africa’s future.

During a high-level governance summit in Nairobi, Professor Moghalu boldly stated, “The question won’t be what you studied or where. In ten years, the question will be, have you joined ASG?” This sentiment reverberated in similar events held in Lagos, Cairo, Maputo, and Abidjan.

In collaboration with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and other key institutions in public policy and governance, ASG is positioning itself as a gamechanger in leadership and governance education. With its inaugural class scheduled to commence in September, the school is already generating buzz.

ASG is redefining governance within an African context by offering a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program that is uniquely African in its content, approach, and aspirations. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with global and African thought leaders, emphasizes ethical and purpose-driven leadership. It aims to equip mid-career professionals aged 25 to 50 with the tools not only to govern effectively but also to reimagine governance entirely.

“Africa’s governance challenges won’t be solved by imported frameworks. We’re creating something new, designed by Africa, for Africa,” asserted Moghalu. “You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket. ASG is that ticket for leaders ready to make a real impact.”

The presidential tour showcased ASG’s vision to serve not just as an academic institution but as a launchpad for ethical, bold, and pragmatic African leadership. Through immersive case studies, executive training programs, and direct engagement with policymakers and private sector leaders, ASG aims to empower leaders who are ready to shape Africa’s future.

ASG is currently in the process of recruiting students for its inaugural cohort, with applications closing in July. The tuition fee is set at $15,000 per year, and the school offers generous scholarship packages to ensure accessibility across the continent.

Looking ahead, ASG envisions becoming the premier institution for those committed to driving Africa’s transformation. In addition to the MPA program, ASG plans to expand into areas such as corporate governance and public finance by 2027.

Leading this transformative initiative is Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, economist, and influential thinker on African development. With a wealth of experience in international institutions and public policy, Prof. Moghalu embodies the vision of a strong, resilient Africa governed by enlightened leaders. As President of ASG, he is dedicated to fostering effective public governance, pragmatic economic policies, and quality education.

“This is the beginning of something powerful. A leadership renaissance. ASG is where the future of African governance begins,” affirmed Professor Moghalu, echoing the shared sentiment across all tour stops.
