The COVID-19 situation in China has taken a concerning turn, with official data indicating a 160 percent increase in cases in May. Despite the Chinese communist regime’s reports, residents across the country believe that the situation is far more severe than what is being acknowledged.

According to the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), there were 440,662 cases of COVID-19 in May, including 606 severe cases and seven deaths. The main epidemic strain identified was NB.1.8.1, a sub-branch of the XDV Omicron variant.

While Chinese officials claim that the outbreak has peaked and is on a downward trend in some provinces, skepticism remains among experts. Tang Jingyuan, a U.S.-based physician, believes that the government’s statement is aimed at preventing public panic and that the current testing and treatment drugs may not be as effective as claimed.

Reports from local doctors and residents paint a different picture than official data, with many turning to traditional Chinese medicine for treatment. There are concerns about lasting symptoms and underreporting of COVID-19 related deaths by hospitals and the Communist Party.

The NB1.8.1 variant is also spreading internationally, with countries like the United States reporting increased cases. Classified as a “variant under monitoring” by the World Health Organization, NB1.8.1 has been noted for its high ACE2 affinity and immune evasion capabilities.

Experts warn of the potential for a new wave of outbreaks globally if the spread of NB1.8.1 is not contained. The variant is a recombinant mutant strain, a mixture of different Omicron strains, posing challenges for understanding its mutation patterns and potential aftereffects.
