Italian Midfielder Jorginho Joins Flamengo on a Free Transfer
Italy international Jorginho has joined Flamengo on a free transfer following his exit from Arsenal, returning to Brazil just ahead of the revamped Club World Cup.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who was born in Brazil, has agreed to a three-year deal with the Rio de Janeiro club after spending the last seven seasons playing in the Premier League—five of those at Chelsea before his 2023 move to Arsenal.
This marks Jorginho’s first stint at a Brazilian club, having left the country as a teenager to pursue his football career in Italy. His arrival comes in time for Flamengo’s participation in the newly expanded 32-team Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States.
The Brazilian side has been drawn into Group D alongside MLS champions Los Angeles FC, Tunisian title holders Esperance, and Chelsea.
During his time with Chelsea, Jorginho lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2021 and went on to win the previous version of the Club World Cup the following year.
He has earned 57 caps for the Italian national team since making his debut in 2016 and played a key role in Italy’s triumph at Euro 2020.
