The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force has achieved significant savings by canceling more than 25,000 federal contracts and grants, totaling around $175 billion. This translates to approximately $1,055 saved per taxpayer, according to DOGE’s recent update.

The efforts of DOGE have resulted in the termination of approximately 10,871 government contracts, 15,149 grants, and 494 leases. The Department of Health and Human Services, the General Services Administration, the Education Department, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Department of Labor are among the agencies that have seen the most savings due to DOGE’s actions.

Established in January by President Donald Trump, DOGE was tasked with identifying and eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse within the federal government amid record national debt. While tech billionaire Elon Musk was initially leading the group, he has since returned to focus on his business ventures, particularly Tesla, which has experienced a decline in sales across Europe.

Musk emphasized the importance of Congress and federal agencies taking action to support DOGE’s savings goals, as he serves in an advisory role without formal power. He expressed a desire for the group’s audits to result in $1 trillion in federal spending cuts.

Despite facing setbacks in court cases and criticism from Democrats, DOGE continues its efforts to bring about significant savings within the federal government. The Trump administration has petitioned the Supreme Court to allow DOGE access to Social Security Administration records, while Democrats have accused Musk and the administration of blocking appropriated federal funds.
