Opoku Agyemang's private jet use: Be a man of principle and resign - Ntim Fordjour to Ablakwa
SHARE

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a former Deputy Minister of Education and the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has made a bold call for Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to resign immediately. This demand comes in light of reports that Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang returned to Ghana aboard a private jet.

In a post on social media, Ntim Fordjour referenced Ablakwa’s past comments and promises made while in opposition, emphasizing that the Minister should now uphold his own standards by stepping down. “Okudzeto Ablakwa… do the noble thing and resign with immediate effect,” the former deputy minister stated. “You hang yourself with your words!”

Ntim Fordjour’s statements allude to Ablakwa’s strong stance against the use of private jets for presidential and vice-presidential travel. While in opposition, Ablakwa consistently criticized such travel arrangements as wasteful and unnecessary, often highlighting the costs involved and raising concerns over government expenditure.

According to Ntim Fordjour, Ablakwa’s previous remarks were merely “populist stunts” that garnered praise within his party but failed to acknowledge the potential necessity of using private jets for certain official exigencies. “You were categorical in your vow. You dared Ghanaians that you would immediately resign as Minister if your Presidency used a private jet in their regime,” Fordjour pointed out in his post.

The current situation involving Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, whose private jet flight was allegedly funded with public money, is seen as a clear violation of the principles Ablakwa claimed to champion. “Be a man of PRINCIPLES and RESIGN!” Fordjour urged, while also noting that using private jets is not inherently inappropriate when the official Presidential jet is unavailable.

As of now, Mr. Ablakwa has not publicly responded to Rev. Fordjour’s demand. Nevertheless, this issue has ignited political debate and reignited discussions on government expenditure and accountability.
