Panyaza Lesufi, the Gauteng premier and co-convenor of the ANC in the province, has expressed determination in resurrecting the party in Gauteng. In a recent statement, Lesufi emphasized that there is no better alternative to the ANC in the province.

Lesufi’s confidence in the ANC’s resurgence comes amidst a challenging political landscape, with the 2026 local government elections and the 2027 ANC elective conference on the horizon. The political arena in Gauteng is crowded with various parties vying for power, including ActionSA, BOSA, COPE, the Democratic Alliance, EFF, and Rise Mzansi, among others.

The ANC in Gauteng has faced its fair share of challenges in recent years, with internal divisions and leadership struggles dominating headlines. However, Lesufi remains optimistic about the party’s future, citing the commitment of its members and the party’s historical significance in South Africa’s political landscape.

Key figures within the ANC, such as Fikile Mbalula, Jacob Zuma, Lebohang Maile, and Paul Mashitile, continue to play pivotal roles in shaping the party’s direction. The ANC’s agenda includes promoting Radical Economic Transformation and addressing crucial issues facing the province, such as unemployment, poverty, and inequality.

Despite facing criticism and scrutiny, the ANC remains a dominant force in Gauteng politics, with a strong support base and a rich history of activism and liberation. As the party looks towards the future, it will need to navigate various challenges and obstacles to regain the trust and confidence of the electorate.

Lesufi’s leadership and vision for the ANC in Gauteng will be crucial in driving the party’s resurgence and solidifying its position as a formidable political force in the province. With the support of its members and allies, the ANC aims to reclaim its place as the leading political party in Gauteng and continue its legacy of fighting for social justice and equality.
