Huawei has once again taken the lead in the smartwatch market, surpassing competitors like Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and Honor with their latest releases. The company recently unveiled a new series of smart wearables at the Velodrome in Berlin, Germany, catering to the increasing demand for health-conscious devices.

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 series stands out for its affordability and impressive battery life, setting it apart from other competitors. The devices feature a sleek square watch face design reminiscent of the Apple Watch, but with a more evolved rectangular face. The flagship model, the Watch Fit 4 Pro, boasts a slim and lightweight design measuring only 9.3mm in thickness. It supports pro-level outdoor sports activities such as trail running, diving up to 40 meters, and golf mode, enhanced by the TruSense System for comprehensive health management.

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 series is scheduled to be available in South Africa starting from June 2, 2025, with a retail price of R2 999.00 for the standard model and R4 999.00 for the Pro version.

In addition to the Fit series, Huawei also introduced the Watch 5, featuring an enhanced TruSense System with the new X-Tap technology for improved health monitoring. Gesture controls have been upgraded to support double sliding and tapping for more intuitive interactions. The Huawei Watch 5 will be available in South Africa in purple and sand gold colors from June 2, retailing at R9 999.00.

While Huawei’s smart wearables offer competitive features, Apple and Samsung have an advantage in payment capabilities through their watches, a feature that Huawei has yet to introduce in South Africa.

The global wearables market is expected to see significant growth in 2025, driven by innovations in AI, connectivity, and a focus on health and fitness tracking. With more consumers exploring wearable technology, the industry is poised for exciting developments that will redefine personal tech experiences.

Aside from smartwatches, Huawei also unveiled flagship products like the FreeBuds 6 and the MatePad Pro 12.2-inch. The FreeBuds 6 are the company’s first open-fit earbuds with dual-magnetic driver units and noise cancellation technology. The MatePad Pro 12.2-inch features a paper matte display for enhanced brightness and anti-glare capabilities.

The FreeBuds 6 arrival date and pricing are yet to be confirmed, while the MatePad Pro 12.2-inch will be available in South Africa towards the end of July, with pricing details to follow.

Huawei’s continuous innovation in the wearable technology space solidifies its position as a market leader, offering consumers a diverse range of smart devices to suit their needs and preferences.
