Gurbhej Dhillon, the former Chief Technology Officer at Flutterwave, has recently announced his departure from the company after a successful tenure. Dhillon, who joined Flutterwave from Goldman Sachs in 2022, made the announcement through a heartfelt LinkedIn post on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

In his post, Dhillon expressed gratitude for his time at Flutterwave, stating, “After an incredible journey as the Chief Technology Officer at Flutterwave, I am stepping away from the company. This decision marks the close of an amazing chapter and the beginning of a short but much-needed break as I prepare for the next step in my career.”

Dhillon’s departure follows other high-profile exits from Flutterwave, including Oneal Bhambani (CFO) in November 2023 and Bode Abifarin (COO) in March 2024. During his time at the company, Dhillon played a pivotal role in enhancing Flutterwave’s architecture and infrastructure, providing leadership for the engineering and product teams.

Flutterwave, in a statement to Techpoint Africa, expressed gratitude for Dhillon’s contributions and leadership. The company assured that its engineering teams are well-prepared for the transition and acknowledged Dhillon’s role in stabilizing the tech infrastructure and leading the development of the next-gen API.

Under Dhillon’s leadership, Flutterwave achieved significant milestones, including partnerships with global firms like Microsoft and Capgemini. These collaborations expanded Flutterwave’s engineering team, provided exposure to global teams, and strengthened the company’s technological capabilities. Additionally, Dhillon oversaw the successful relaunch of the Send App, enabling users in over 34 countries to receive international transfers.

In recent developments, Flutterwave has been actively expanding its presence in the African fintech landscape. The company partnered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to provide MSMEs with digital payment solutions, e-commerce tools, financial access, and capacity-building programs. Flutterwave also expanded its footprint in Ghana through the launch of the Send App and a partnership with Affinity Bank to integrate Pay with Bank Transfer.

Furthermore, Flutterwave’s CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, recently indicated a shift in focus towards profitability. While there were previous talks about a possible initial public offering, the company is now prioritizing profitability as its immediate goal.

In conclusion, Gurbhej Dhillon’s departure marks the end of a successful chapter at Flutterwave, and the company remains committed to its growth and expansion in the African fintech sector.
