Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has officially announced the departure of their Head Coach, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum. The decision to part ways with Coach Ogum was reached after both parties engaged in constructive discussions and agreed that it was in the best interest of the club.
In a statement released by Kotoko, the club expressed gratitude towards Coach Ogum for his hard work and dedication during his time with the team. They also extended their well wishes for his future endeavors, stating, “We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
The club has called upon their fans to remain calm and continue to show their support during this period of transition. Further updates regarding the team’s future plans will be shared in due course.
This decision comes just over two weeks before the highly anticipated Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak on May 4, 2025. Kotoko will be facing Aduana Stars in their upcoming league game.
Before the decision to part ways with Coach Ogum, he had expressed optimism about Kotoko’s chances of winning the Ghana Premier League, despite slipping from the top spot in the standings. Following consecutive losses to Nations FC and Accra Lions, Coach Ogum acknowledged the team’s poor form but remained confident in their ability to bounce back. He stated, “Back-to-back defeats aren’t ideal, but as the technical team, it’s our job to motivate the players despite external pressure. These are the same players who went on a long unbeaten run earlier. We believe we can turn this around.”
Despite the recent setbacks, Kotoko still has the opportunity to clinch a league and FA Cup double, as they have advanced to the semi-finals of the latter competition with a 2-1 victory over True Democracy. The new coach will be tasked with guiding the team to success in at least one of these competitions.
As the club navigates this period of transition, fans and stakeholders will be eagerly awaiting the appointment of a new head coach to lead Asante Kotoko Sporting Club into the next chapter of their journey.
