A joint taskforce comprising members from TDC Ghana and the National Security team carried out a demolition exercise at the Sakumono Ramsar site on Monday morning. The operation aimed to dismantle illegal structures that had been erected on the site, as part of a broader initiative to reclaim encroached state lands and safeguard Ramsar sites from further encroachment.

Courage Nunekpeku, the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Ltd, addressed the media following the demolition exercise. He emphasized the importance of protecting Ramsar sites, which are designated under the Ramsar Convention as wetlands of international importance. These sites play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, providing habitat for various species of flora and fauna, and serving as vital ecosystems for the environment.

The demolition of illegal structures at the Sakumono Ramsar site is a proactive step towards preserving these valuable natural resources and ensuring that they remain intact for future generations to enjoy. It also sends a clear message that encroachment on state lands will not be tolerated, and that measures will be taken to enforce compliance with land use regulations.

As the cleanup operation continues, it is expected that further action will be taken to prevent future encroachment and protect Ramsar sites across the country. By upholding the principles of sustainable land management and environmental conservation, Ghana is demonstrating its commitment to preserving its natural heritage and promoting responsible stewardship of its natural resources.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as efforts to protect Ramsar sites and combat illegal encroachment continue.
