Rob McLennan and Dave De Vetta, known for their work with No Friends of Harry, have joined forces once again to bring us a new project that is quickly evolving into a full-fledged band. The collaboration between McLennan and De Vetta dates back years, with the initial spark of inspiration coming after a night of watching Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds perform. What started as a casual jam session during a visit to Edinburgh in 2018 eventually blossomed into a full-fledged musical endeavor.

During the lockdown, the duo found themselves separated by continents but connected by a shared passion for music. With the help of evolving technology and a healthy dose of tequila, McLennan and De Vetta continued to exchange ideas and craft new songs, culminating in the creation of their latest release.

Exploring New Horizons in Music

The sound of A Million Ways To Die draws on the goth rock roots of No Friends of Harry while also pushing boundaries and exploring new sonic territories. McLennan and De Vetta are committed to evolving as artists and challenging themselves with each new project, injecting fresh energy and creativity into their music.

De Vetta’s affinity for minor chords and dark lyrics is complemented by McLennan’s talent for infusing light and melody into their sound. Together, they create a dynamic blend of melancholy and joy, capturing the essence of goth music while adding their own unique twist.

For McLennan, music has always been a vehicle for exploring the darker aspects of life and evoking genuine emotion. Influenced by iconic artists like Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, and Nick Cave, he aims to create music that resonates on a visceral level and transcends the superficiality of mainstream pop.

Embracing the Goth Aesthetic

Goth culture has experienced a resurgence in recent years, with artists like Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey incorporating gothic elements into their music and fashion. McLennan and De Vetta see this resurgence as a validation of goth’s enduring legacy and hope to introduce a new generation of listeners to their music.

While acknowledging the rich history of goth music and its continued relevance, McLennan and De Vetta remain focused on creating music that is authentic, creative, and, above all, enjoyable. Their ultimate goal is to make cool music that resonates with listeners and stands the test of time.

As they continue to explore new horizons in music and embrace the goth aesthetic, McLennan and De Vetta are excited to share their latest release with the world and hope that it will find its way into the hearts of music lovers everywhere.
