More than 20 pupils from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra region were rushed to the hospital after collapsing during class hours today, Monday, April 14. The alarming incident left both parents and teachers in shock as the children were seen running in distress before collapsing. The affected pupils were immediately admitted to the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition.

Preliminary reports suggest that the cause of the sudden collapse was linked to the consumption of asana, a local corn drink sold by a vendor in the area. The vendor who sold the drink has also been hospitalized, raising concerns about the safety and quality of food and beverages being sold to children in the community.

In response to the incident, the Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate has swiftly mobilized resources and personnel to investigate the matter. Collaborating with parents and school authorities, the health officials are working diligently to identify the root cause of the health scare and prevent any further incidents from occurring.

The safety and well-being of the pupils remain a top priority for the district health authorities, who are committed to ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard the health of the students. As investigations continue, parents and the community are urged to remain vigilant and report any unusual symptoms or incidents to the authorities promptly.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and hygiene practices, especially when it comes to children’s nutrition. It also highlights the need for stricter regulations and monitoring of food vendors to prevent similar incidents in the future. The community is urged to support the ongoing investigations and cooperate with health officials to ensure the safety of all children in the area.
