National security operatives in the Western Region have made a significant discovery in Kansaworado, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi. The operatives uncovered stacks of ECG equipment at two different locations, following an ongoing search for over 1,300 missing ECG containers that were reportedly lost at the Tema Port.

At an uncompleted building in Kansaworado, officials found seven drums of fibre and aluminium cables hidden on the premises. Additionally, they recovered around 100 boxes of single-phase meter enclosures, packs of electrical switches, and other tools. These items were reportedly released by MBH Power to Hegmic Co. Ltd for electrification works under ECG’s Loss Reduction Programme (LRP).

During questioning, Evans Lartey, a supervisor with MBH Power, confirmed that the company had proper documentation for the items. He mentioned that the project had started around August 2023 and that they had the approval of ECG officials at various levels.

However, the discovery of 41 full drums of aluminium cables, five used cables, and bundles of angle iron bars at a second site in Kansaworado raised more questions. The owner of the land and the individual responsible for storing the materials remain unknown. Hashem Tanko Nuhu of National Security confirmed that the items had been seized for further investigation, as no one has taken responsibility for them yet.

Mr. Nuhu expressed dissatisfaction with the supervisor’s explanations from MBH Power, particularly regarding how the items ended up at a private residence. A reliable source from ECG confirmed the company’s contractual relationship with MBH Power under the LRP but could not provide a reason for why the materials were stored at a private property.

The Regional National Security Coordinator is set to contact the head office in Accra for further instructions, and ECG will be involved in the ongoing investigation. Residents in the area have been unable to identify the owners of the materials or the parcel of land where the items were found, adding more mystery to the situation.

The uncovering of these ECG equipment at multiple locations in Kansaworado has raised concerns about the handling and storage of such crucial electrical materials. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the rightful owners and the circumstances surrounding the storage of the equipment.
