Dionne Marie Hanna Faces Fraud Charges in Singapore Court

A British woman, known for her role in the Netflix documentary Con Mum, has been charged with fraud in a Singapore court. Dionne Marie Hanna, 84, is facing five counts of fraud involving three individuals, according to court documents.

The documentary, released on March 25, showcases Hanna’s alleged deception of renowned pastry chef Graham Hornigold, whom she claims to be her biological son. The film reveals how she conned him out of hundreds of thousands of dollars before a DNA test confirmed their biological relationship.

Appearing in court via videolink from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Hanna was seen lying in bed, with reasons for her hospitalization remaining undisclosed. One of the charges against her involves impersonating a member of the Brunei royal family to a man in Singapore, promising him wealth in exchange for financial assistance.

Following the documentary’s release, several individuals came forward with reports of being scammed by Hanna. Singapore police have initiated investigations into at least five cases of fraud, with losses exceeding $200,000. Victims were led to believe in fake investment and inheritance opportunities, resulting in monetary transfers for legal fees and overseas bank accounts.

If convicted of fraud, Hanna could face fines and up to 20 years in prison. Her next court hearing is scheduled for April 11. The case serves as a cautionary tale against falling for elaborate scams and highlights the importance of verifying the authenticity of financial transactions.
