Kevin De Bruyne Set to Depart Manchester City at the End of the Season
Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne announced on Friday that he will be leaving Manchester City at the conclusion of the current season.
Having joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015, the 33-year-old has been an integral part of the team’s success, helping the club secure 14 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the prestigious Champions League crown in 2023.
Expressing his emotions on social media, De Bruyne said, “Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
Reflecting on his time at the club, he added, “Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what – we won everything.”
De Bruyne’s influence on Manchester City’s success cannot be overstated. He has been a key figure in the team’s dominance in English football, being twice named Players’ Player of the Year and currently ranking second in the Premier League’s all-time assist standings with 118 assists.
While his contract is set to expire at the end of June, it remains to be seen whether he will feature for City in the upcoming Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 13.
In his farewell message, De Bruyne concluded, “Every story comes to an end, but this has been the best chapter. Let’s enjoy these last moments together!”
