The tragic death of Police Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng, who was fatally shot at a police barrier in Abease, Bono East Region, has left his family devastated and seeking justice. However, almost four months after the incident, the family is expressing disappointment in the Ghana Police Service for what they perceive as a lack of urgency in solving the case.

The family of the deceased, led by his father Nana Kyei Baffour Bosomprah, held a press briefing in Fawohoyeden, Ahafo Region, where they called on the new Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to expedite investigations into Kennedy’s death. They expressed concern over the delay in apprehending the suspect, who is believed to be a member of the police force, and warned that they may take matters into their own hands if justice is not served.

Relatives of the deceased, Otis Otu-Acheampong and Paulina Boakyewaa, also voiced their disappointment with the Ghana Police Service’s handling of the case. They urged the new IGP to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure the arrest of the suspect, and ensure that justice is served for Kennedy and his family.

The incident that led to Kennedy’s death occurred on December 15, 2024, on the Prang to Kintampo Road in the Bono East Region. A routine police checkpoint turned violent when a group of mourners clashed with the police at a barrier. The situation escalated when a mourner allegedly insulted a policewoman, leading to a call for backup. In the ensuing confrontation, a police officer fired warning shots, and in the chaos that followed, Kennedy was accidentally shot in the abdomen while trying to disarm his colleague.

The family of Kennedy Ofori Boateng is seeking closure and justice for their lost loved one. They are calling on the authorities to prioritize the investigation, apprehend the suspect, and ensure that those responsible for his death are brought to justice. As they continue to mourn the loss of their son and brother, they are determined to see that his memory is honored and that justice is served.
