Prince Harry Resigns from Sentebale, Citing Internal Infighting

Prince Harry has made the difficult decision to resign from Sentebale, the African charity he co-founded in memory of his mother, Princess Diana. The Duke of Sussex, along with his co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, has stepped down as patron following a period of internal conflict within the organization.

The root of the issue lies in a dispute between the charity’s trustees and its chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. The trustees raised concerns over governance matters and a proposed shift in fundraising priorities towards Africa. This disagreement led to a call for Chandauka’s removal, which she contested in court, alleging issues of poor governance, bullying, and misogyny within the organization.

The situation has escalated to the point where the UK’s Charity Commission has launched an investigation into the governance practices of Sentebale. This development has cast a shadow over the charity’s mission to support vulnerable youth in Lesotho and Botswana who are impacted by poverty and HIV/AIDS.

Despite the turmoil, Sentebale, which translates to “Forget Me Not,” remains committed to its core objectives. However, the departure of Prince Harry as patron marks a significant turning point in the organization’s history.
